Literature Text

I watch from behind the tree. You're slow dancing together on the beach, your head on his shoulder and his face in your hair. I can feel my heart breaking with every second. My God, I feel like my chest is being ripped apart. He pulls away, you look at him confused. I can see his mouth moving, but what's he saying?

He gets down on one knee.

No...

He reaches into his pocket.

No.

You gasp, tears running down your cheeks as he pulls out a black velvet box.

NO!

I turn away as you nod. I run. Run as far away from there as possible. I sink down in front of a tree and sob. Why? Why?! Why didn't I get the guts to ask you first? I love you more than life itself, but I was too stupid and cowardly. I lost you. Maybe, I could...

"NO!!!" I yell, punching the tree. I will not be an idiot just because I was too weak to get you when I had the chance. I will always be here for you, and that fool better take good care of you.

I'll always watch over you, but at the same time, keep my distance. Because let's face it...

You were never mine.

So visual and poignant in such few words in a way that requires real talent.  Powerful.
